Miranda Hawthorne has been given “lady lessons” since she was a young girl. She acts like a perfect lady would on the outside, but on the inside she longs to bold and carefree. Ever since the day of her eighth birthday, she has kept her true feelings locked up inside her. Looking for a way to express those feelings, she begins to write to her brother’s best friend, the Duke of Marshington, and tell him what she truly thinks and feels. She never sends the letters, but just putting them down on paper helps her cope with her true feelings and the need to share them with someone. When one of her letters is mistakenly mailed, she becomes mortified and embarrassed that she ever wrote them in the first place. When she receives a reply from the mysterious Duke himself, she is humiliated. She knows that she will never actually ever meet the Duke as he has been in hiding for several years, so she throws caution to the wind and begins a correspondence with the Duke. After several months of correspondence with Lady Miranda, the Duke decides he wants to return to society and court her properly. When Lady Miranda meets the Duke in person, she is utterly humiliated and angry that she wants nothing to do with the Duke. The Duke tries all he can think of to win the heart of Lady Miranda, but she is to upset and stubborn to acknowledge him. Will the Duke be able to convince Miranda that he truly does care about her and love her, or will the strain on their relationship be too much of an obstacle to overcome?

I must admit that this would not have been a book that I would have purchased for myself, and that would have been a will shame as I loved this book. I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. I fell in love with the characters from the very beginning, and I felt like I actually knew them. Kristi Ann Hunter grabbed my attention from the start and held me riveted until the very end. The book is filled with suspense, danger, and romance. I would recommend this book to everyone
