Taylor Cabot is finally trying to get on with her life after the death of her husband. She is working as an ER nurse and getting her life back on track. She is checking items off of a Survival List one thing at a time, but when it comes to the last item “Fall in Love Again”, she is not sure she is truly ready to move on.
Crisis chaplain Seth Donovan is in San Diego to train new volunteers for the crisis team. Upon in arriving in San Diego, he is met with a tragedy that needs his immediate attention. When he arrives at the scene of the tragedy, he is surprised to Taylor there trying to save a man’s life.
Taylor is shocked to find out that Seth is in San Diego and tries to avoid him, but that proves to be a difficult challenge. Seth is the one person that may know something about her husband’s tragic death, yet he is not willing to give her the information that she seeks. Even though they linked together by the past, Taylor is going to do everything that she possibly can to keep them from becoming linked together again. When another tragedy strikes, Seth and Taylor are forced to work together. As they work together to help others, they realize that maybe they can help each other as well.

“Step by Step” is beautifully written and a very good read. I was held captivated from the very beginning of the story. This was the second story that I have read by Candace Calvert, and I was not disappointed. The first story I read by her was in a novella collection with other authors, and I really enjoyed that short story, so I was excited to read another one of her stories. I was pleasantly surprised to find the characters from that first story that I read (“The Recipe”) mentioned in this book. It added a nice touch to the story. Even without the aforementioned characters this was a terrific book. The book is filled with thrilling action, romance, and hope. I highly recommend this story to anyone that loves a good adventure.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Tyndale Publishers in exchange for my honest review.
