With the American Revolution finally over, Sophie Menzies hopes that things will go back to normal soon. She has done everything that she could to keep her family home from being destroyed by the British, and now she hopes her brother will return soon to help her take care of things. She hopes that the people in town will finally stop shunning her and blaming her for her father’s betrayal to the colonies. When it becomes obvious that she will never be accepted by the town, she is afraid that she will lose her house and everything that she has fought to protect during the war.

General Seamus Ogilvy had finally returned home after fighting for his country. He soon learns that he is a widower and that his brother and sister-in-law will not let him have his daughter back. He takes his daughter back from his in-laws and tries to rebuild his life, but when his daughter doesn’t seem to like him or trust him, he does not know what he should do. However, his daughter has fallen in love with Miss Sophie Menzies, his next door neighbor. He is at his wit’s end and doesn’t know what he should do.

When Sophie is receives notice that her house is going to be confiscated as government property, she has to decide what she will do and where she will live. When General Ogilvy comes to her with a proposition of a marriage of convenience for both of them, she has no choice but to accept his proposal. “The Mistress of Tall Acre” is a very captivating book. I fell in love with the characters from the very beginning and could not wait to see what would happen to them. I found myself being transferred to the late 1700s, and I felt as though I was really there. The book is filled with intrigue, love, and triumph over tragedies. I could not put this book, and I would highly recommend this book to my family and friends.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell Publishers in exchange for my honest review.
