It is 1941 and America is on the brink of joining the war. Naval Officer Ensign Jim Avery escorts British convoys across the North Atlantic in a destroyer, the USS Atwood. Jim has always just gone with the flow and doesn’t want to make waves in anyway, but when things on the Atwood begin to happen that points to sabotage, Jim must make several decisions that could cost him his career and the lives of several men. He must decide whether or not his bold choices are worth the risk. Along the way he meets Mary Stirling, a secretary at the Boston Navy Yard.
Mary is an efficient secretary who loves her job and does it very well. She does not like attention of any kind and likes to remain in the shadows as much as possible. When evidence of sabotage begins show up around the Naval Yard, Mary’s desire to remain unseen comes in handy as she begins to try to uncover the culprit. Jim and Mary begin to work together on the case and along the way they begin to fall in love with each other, but when an old friend shows up out of the blue their relationship is put in jeopardy.

I have always loved learning more about the World War II era and this book is filled with lots of history and many interesting facts that I was not aware of. I thoroughly enjoyed reading “Through Waters Deep” and I cannot wait to read the next installment in the Waves of Freedom series. The book also reminds us to trust in God no matter what is going on in our life and to give God the glory for everything that He has done. If you are a fan of history, mysteries, and romance, then you will most definitely enjoy this book.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell Publishing in exchange for my honest review.
