Hostage negotiator, Skyler Brennan, is off duty when her life is put in danger. While at the bank, she finds herself as a hostage in a bank robbery. She tries her best to resolve the situation without anybody getting hurt, but when things begin to escalate one of the bank robbers is killed. The other bank robber blames Skyler for the death of his partner and threatens revenge. He takes Skyler as a safety measure in order to get out of the bank alive, but when a FBI agent who is trying to gain a promotion shoots the robber in order to save Skyler, the bank robber releases Skyler and manages to escape. Skyler is surprised to discover the FBI agent is none other than her ex-boyfriend Logan Hunter. Logan left her behind a few years ago in order to become a hot shot FBI agent in Chicago and has never looked back. He finds himself back in Portland heading up the bank robbery investigation, but he did not except to run into Skyler so soon. His entire promotion hinges on whether or not he can catch the bank robbers by the deadline he has been given. When Skyler reenters his life, he finds himself with a choice to make – his career or love. Will he be able to attain them both or will everything come crashing down around him?

“Silent Night Standoff” is the first book in the First Responders Series. In this book we are introduced to the First Responders Unit. I really enjoyed this book, and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series. Susan Sleeman captured my attention from the very beginning and held me riveted until the very end. The story is filled with many twists and turns and kept me in suspense until the very end. The mystery, romance, and drama were tied together beautifully. I was not able to put the book down until I was finished, and even then I wanted to keep reading more about the wonderful characters in the book. I would highly recommend this book to anybody who loves a good mystery.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
