FBI Agent Laurel Evertson is thrust into a scam targeting the elderly. She can't stand it when someone is being taken advantage of and this case hits closer to home than she is willing to admit. She is forced to go undercover with Morton Wilmington, an ex con that she put in prison who vowed to kill her, in order to find out who is behind the crime. All she wants to do is prove that Morton has not changed and is the mastermind behind the insurance scam, but he keeps insisting that he has really changed and just wants to help her solve the case.
Houston Police Officer Daniel Hilton fears for the lives of his grandparents. His grandparents have become the target of the insurance scam and now somebody is out to kill them so they can collect more money. Daniel wants to do everything in his power to protect his grandparents and is forced to join forces with the FBI, Laurel, and Morton Wilmington. He isn't quite sure who he can trust, but he knows that he will not allow anything to happen to his grandparents.
As Laurel, Daniel, and Morton have to work together to put a stop to the insurance scam and the deaths that keep occurring, they have to rely on one another to solve the case. Laurel and Daniel slowly learn to trust each other, but they still do not trust Morton, the ex con. They think that he is the one that is double crossing them and trying to kill them as they get closer to solving the case. Will they learn the truth in time or will everything go up in flames before the reach truth? Find out by reading Double Cross.

I love mystery books and this one did not disappoint. Double Cross is filled with many exciting twists and turns along the way and it kept me guessing until the end about who the mastermind really was. I missed book one in the series, but I was able to follow this one without having read Firewall. (I hope to read sometime soon though.) My only complaint about the book was some of the mature content in the book and I would not recommend this book for young readers.
I received this complimentary book from Tyndale Publishers in exchange for my honest review.
