"Hearts Made Whole"
by Jody Hedlund
Caroline Taylor has helped her father take care of the Windmill Point Lighthouse most of her life. Now that her father has died in a boating accident, Caroline continues to take care of the lighthouse. In 1865 women are not supposed to be taking care of a lighthouse, so the lighthouse board is looking for a man to replace her as head lighthouse keeper. Caroline is not happy about the board’s decision and tries to fight the inevitable.

Ryan Chambers is a Civil War veteran still haunted by the war and his past. He gains the job has keeper of the lighthouse mostly for the privacy and isolation that it will give him. The last thing he expected was for the current lighthouse keeper, Caroline, to be beautiful, feisty, and angry at him for taking her job away from her.  Ryan does not want to throw Caroline and her siblings out of the lighthouse until she has found a place for them to live. Caroline has no intention of giving up her position so easily especially when she realizes that Ryan is not capable of running the lighthouse by himself. Ryan and Caroline realize that they need each other’s help in order to survive, so Ryan agrees to let Caroline and her siblings stay at the lighthouse while she teaches him how to run the lighthouse properly. When Caroline’s garden is destroyed, the lighthouse is set on fire, and many other mishaps occur, Ryan and Caroline realize that their lives are in danger and somebody is not happy about them being at the lighthouse. Will they survive the challenges that they are facing or will the danger and trials cause them to give up and run away before anything else goes wrong?

“Hearts Made Whole” by Jody Hedlund is a very interesting read that captured my attention and kept it through the entire book. The book is filled with intrigue, adventure, and romance. While the story in general was interesting, there were a couple of things that I did not appreciate being in a Christian fiction book.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Bethany House Publishers in exchange for my honest review.
