Dr. Jessica MacLeod is finally seeing her dream of becoming a doctor in a small town come true. She arrives in Last Chance, New Mexico and opens her office on Main Street. The folks in Last Chance are glad that Last Chance is finally getting its own doctor, but they are all reluctant to give the new doctor a chance. Especially since she is an outsider, doesn’t like spicy foods, and hates football. Jessica is surprised to find that she is facing so much resistance and doesn’t understand what the big deal is about football and chili peppers anyway.
Andy Ryan, local hometown football hero, has returned home after playing in the NFL to coach the high school football team. He is excited to be back home, but when everyone starts talking about the “Glory Days” and saying that they can’t wait until their football team is restored to its former glory, he is afraid that the people will not be able to stop living in the past and look forward towards the present team. He constantly reminds the people that he is here to help the boys on the football team and that the past is in the past, but the folks in Last Chance keep insisting that he is the best thing that ever happened to Last Chance. When he meets Jessica, he is immediately drawn to her and the fact that she does not put him on a pedestal; however, when he discovers that she can’t stand football, he is a bit taken aback. Andy and Jessica hit it off, but will their differences over the game of football be too much for them to overcome or will they be able to find a common ground?

I had a hard time getting into this book. The book was well-written, but I found myself getting frustrated with Jessica and her attitude that she was always right. I liked all of the other people in the town and their stories, but Jessica grated on my nerves for some reason.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell Publishers in exchange for my honest review.
