"The Wish"

Leona Speicher had always longed for a sister. Growing up with only a much older brother she always felt like an only child. She got her wish when the Gingerich family moved to Lancaster County. Their daughter Gloria became like the sister Leona never had- until Gloria's father is expelled from their Old Order Amish church for reasons no one will discuss. So the Gingeriches suddenly pack up and disappear. Gloria promises to write but a long silence ensues until one day, several years later, she contacts Leona with a plea of help. Leona decides to go visit her friend who along with her family have turned Englisch. Leona's fiance', the deacon's son, is alarmed. He fears that her kindness and concern for Gloria will lead to her undoing. But his biggest concern is Gloria's brother, Adam, who had shown an interest in Leona before they moved away. Is the spark still there between Leona and Adam? Did he only capture Leona's heart because Adam had moved away? Is Leona's faith strong enough to withstand the temptations of the Englisch world? The answer is in the pages of Mrs. Lewis' page turning book- The Wish.

I enjoyed this book as I do all of Beverly Lewis' books. You are almost half- way through the book before you find out why Gloria's father is expelled from the Amish church. This only adds to the suspense of the story. This also shows us that our faith is important I do wish their was more of the Amish language in the book, as I enjoy learning what the different tongue means.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher. No review positive or negative was required. All opinions are my own.
